Language, Literature and Our Education

The inclusion or exclusion of language subjects in school curriculum is the second most discussed topic these days. The most discussed one, undoubtedly,  is the political change in West Bengal... but that's a completely different ball game, and it is impossible to pen down such kind of vibrant arguments. We, rather, would be more comfortable in the worlds of languages and literature.

English, once again, is a unanimous winner among the urban elites. Nobody questions the presence of English language in the curriculum, and it is an obvious choice as a medium for other subjects. However, we understand, that rural India might not be able to afford the infrastructure required for English medium schools, and there should be a mechanism to induce these merits during higher education.

The presence of a second language in the curricullum is questioned. And even if it is present, the automatic choice should be a national level language instead of the local mother-tongues - says one opinion. Others argue for the mother-tongue.

Inception

They say, an idle mind is the devil's workshop. But what happens if few such minds come together. That too, spiced up with few dishes of canteen meals which forces you to discuss random things to keep your mind away from the food.

Suddenly you discover that you are part of such a learned discussion that is solving diversified Socio-Economic and cultural super problems. Such is the involvement that the lunch time often gets extended and you end up spending extra hours towards the end of the day to finish off with the daily chores.

Some might think that these empty words are eventually waste of time. But we believe otherwise. We are sure that some day will come when our society will thank us for such insightful thoughts. We will just smile back and say: Welcome!
